History of IMS Pro AV and Integrated Midi Systems

Over the last 30 years we have often been asked the question: Who are you guys?  I never heard of you.  Well, after 3 decades in the business, we thought it is time to answer this with both words and pictures.

Following years of study and apprenticeship in the building and restoration of string instruments, Matthew Hochman, our CEO, first venture into business was in 1979 with the creation of Hochman Fine String Instruments.  As a Luthier, he handcrafted guitars and dulcimers and completed extensive restoration work on lutes, banjos, mandolins, acoustic and electric guitars, violins, cellos and basses. He regularly lectured and led demonstrations at museums in the New York metropolitan area.

Matt’s keen interest in business developed quickly. To ensure success of school music programs, Matthew recognized the need for students to have high quality musical instruments. In 1986, Hochman Musical Instruments, Inc. filled this void by providing repair services and rentals of new band and stringed instruments through innovative programs to 42 school districts in and around the Long Island area within the first six months of operation.

During this time he met a talented and dedicated teacher at one of the local schools. Together they began discussions on how the fledgling field of computer music was about to have an amazing and lasting impact that would change the music world forever!  Technology was beginning to play a significant role in many markets and the business opportunities were not going to go unnoticed.  In 1988, Integrated MIDI Systems, Ltd. was launched with a focus of integrating music technology into school curriculums and implementing creative hardware and software solutions for a wide range of applications. Areas of interest included but was not limited to advertising agencies, film studios and museums.  Matthew developed the accounts and acquired the hardware and software lines to be provided and his partner advanced the teaching methods and was in charge of instruction. By 1989, through mutual agreement, Matthew gained sole ownership of Integrated Midi Systems.

In 1998, our current corporate headquarters located in the Stony Brook Technology Center was purchased.  Matthew re-branded the company in January 2006 to IMS Pro A/V.  "This was done to better reflect who our current customer base represents and the solutions and vertical markets we support".

As specialists in many diverse applications, IMS Pro A/V now offers turnkey integrated solutions for computer based and standalone audio and video systems.

We are currently authorized for more than 400 leading manufacturers of computer hardware and software, pro audio and video equipment. Our customers are found all over the world. From Fortune 500 companies and 200 year-old universities to the next Hip-Hop star working out of their home studio.
