The Clifford Brown Jazz Foundation is a non-profit organization that continues the work started by the late jazz trumpeter, Clifford Brown. Its purpose is to promote jazz as an art form; to encourage and foster a greater awareness of jazz by teaching and performing; to provide assistance to students by sponsoring an instrument loan program, workshops, clinics, private lessons, mentor programs and scholarships. The CBJF was founded by LaRue Brown Watson, the widow of Clifford Brown, in 1994, but after she became ill and moved into assisted living, the foundation was on hiatus. Luckily, the Foundation soon found a new champion in Clifford’s grandson, Clifford Brown III, and has reestablished itself as an active public charity.
