The patent wars between Samsung and Apple are heating up again, this time on Sammy’s home turf of South Korea. Only hours before Apple takes the stage to introduce its latest gizmos, the Korean consumer electronics giant has filed yet another lawsuit against Cupertino, which take aim at the company’s latest generation of iOS devices.
Reuters is reporting that Samsung has filed a new lawsuit against Apple on Tuesday in a Seoul, South Korea court, presumably timed in an effort to rain on Cupertino’s media event that kicks off today at 10am PST. After similar disputes in Australia, Germany and the Netherlands, Samsung’s latest lawsuit now moves the battle to the company’s backyard.
“Samsung said the fresh suit, filed on Tuesday to a Seoul court, covers three utility patents and involves methods of displaying data, the user interface, and short text messages,” the report revealed, noting that Samsung is directly targeted the current generation iPhone 4S and iPad 2.
“The companies have extended their fight to more than 30 cases in 10 countries since Apple fired its first salvo in April, claiming Samsung ‘slavishly’ copied its iPhone and iPad models,” Reuters explains.
Nice try, Samsung — but all eyes will still be on the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts today as Apple unveils the next-generation iPad and presumably other goodies such as a refreshed Apple TV.
